Beauty Therapy College

I’ve got some exciting news! As of yesterday, I am officially enrolled into a beauty school/college in North Sydney to study a Diploma in Beauty Therapy part-time. I’ve been thinking about doing a make-up course for quite some time now, and when I was doing some research on where the courses were offered either via part-time or distance/e-learning study, I came across a beauty therapy course and absolutely fell in love with what the course/diploma was offering (and the good part is that there’s also a unit on make-up!). Luckily enough, there was an open day/enrollment day being held on the 30th June (which was yesterday), so I went along to that, forms all filled out and ready to go. The college looks absolutely amazing! All the treatment rooms look so relaxing and peaceful, definitely can’t wait to get started! The first class is on 11th July, so I still have time to go and buy some pretty stationary 🙂

Because I’m studying part-time (I would like to study it full-time, but I still like working/having money, and I have plenty of free time anyway, so why not just study part-time and have the best of both worlds!), the classes will be held Monday and Wednesday 6PM – 9PM, and 3 Saturdays a month, 9AM – 3PM for the next 18 months. The Saturday classes are going to be a bit hard to get used to! I’d have to get up at 7AM, as I live about an hour’s train ride from North Sydney, but I think it’s going to definitely be worth it (not to mention that I’ll be getting a student concession travel card! Half-price train fares, oh yeah :D). Another good thing about doing the Diploma in Beauty Therapy is that, if I wish to continue with my studies, I can get 18 months taken off a Bachelor of Health Science in Dermal Therapy through Victoria University (which is available through distance education). How exciting! There’s also opportunities to work overseas and on cruise ships if I choose to take the exam to gain a certificate to enable this. Working in a day spa in Switzerland – how amazing does that sound? Also, if I do choose to study make-up further, and progress onto becoming a make-up artist, a Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a good selling point for employers and if it doesn’t work out, I still have beauty therapy to fall back on.

If anyone is interested, there is another intake for the Diploma of Beauty Therapy in January 2013 (they also offer Certificate III and IV, part-time, full-time and via distance/online correspondence), and I have listed the course units below for a bit of extra information.
